An appeal to promote Assamese Film Industry

An appeal to promote Assamese Film Industry

Dear Friends:
It’s been a long 75 years of journey for Assamese cinema. It was on the 10th of March 1935 when the legendary genius Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala fulfilled his visionary dream resulting in the birth of the first Assamese movie “Joymati”
Despite a glorious history, Assamese film Industry is in doldrums. There is accusation all around. The audience is no more interested in good scripts, dialogue and acting, all they want is dances, songs and light entertainment. Words like taste, tradition, and culture are today meaningless for the audience. In this process, the filmmakers have alienated local stories, history, sorrows and the woes of contemporary society. The dialogues have lost the smoothness, the power of efficacy, depth of emotion and vividness. Acting has become dull without vivacity. The characters are unable to touch the heart of the audience. People love to watch a film which has a story not alien to them but something that is present in contemporary life. Because of the availability of television channels, one can easily access an international movie channel instead of going for a film which is technically and aesthetically poor.
The audience has eventually been made responsible for all these negative tendencies. But who is actually responsible today - the director, the producer or the audience? No production house has made any survey till date about the content of drama, what the script should convey to the masses and what does the audience require. In this context, the role of the director is also very important. The ultimate beauty of a dramatic text depends upon the craftsmanship of the director.
Now a group of alumni from the prestigious FILM AND TELEVISION INSTITUTE OF INDIA, PUNE, decided to start this initiative. BOKUL is budget film estimated at 25 lakhs rupees. BOKUL is a simple story of three characters in the film all named BOKUL. I liked the story. Please find attached a full report for the production of the and a synopsis of BOKUL. I think you like the script and her initiative.
Recently I had a long discussion on the telephone with Reema on her initiative.  On my request, she prepared the above perspective on the Assamese film industry which is very enlightening.
The shooting of the film is to start in January in Biswanath Saraiali. At this time she is asking for individual donations for her film from people like you and me. She is  not asking for big donations from big corporations.
I think by supporting Reema's noble initiative, you can not only support the future of Assamese Film industry, but in fact you can become a part of this initiative. I think by supporting Reema's initiative, you can stop complaining and start acting.
Please donate liberally.
