Businessman Aadilur Rahman murder case - Six suspected persons arrested
Six suspected persons arrested by Sonitpur Police from Jaisidhi area of Sootea on Wednesday in connection with businessman Aadilur Rahman murder case and later produced them before PI Court. The Police Special Women's Force, Viranganas displaying various the tactics
The Police Special Women's Force, Viranganas displaying various the tactics they were taught during the introduction of the force at a function at GMCH auditorium in Guwahati on Friday. Assam Police Special Women?s Force, Virangana, will tackle the growing trend of eve-teasing in Guwahati city. The Virangana force will initially launch its operation in Guwahati and gradually spread its tentacles in other places of the State. 100 women constables have been trained in martial arts, arms drill, and silent drill. AASU taking out a procession in Guwahati
Activists of the All Assam Students Union (AASU) taking out a procession in Guwahati on Tuesday, in protest against the failure of the State Government to check the spread of dengue, to control the hike in the prices of essential commodities, LPG and fuel and against the hike in bus and trekker fares. AASU activists across the State took out a procession and later submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the respective Deputy Commissioners and Subdivisional officers (Civil). AASU advisor Samujjal Bhattacharyya said, ?Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has failed to check price hike and State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has proved a bigger failure in controlling the spread of dengue. The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Morigaon district, with the highest density of rhinos per square km, was opened for both foreign and domestic tourists on Friday. The first jeep and elephant safari in the sanctuary was flagged off by Assam Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain. More than 100 tourists, including nine foreigners, enjoyed the safari in the sanctuary. A train passing through the Saraighat Bridge in Guwahati on Thursday. The first train service on the rail cum road Saraighat Bridge across the Brahmaputra in Guwahati has completed its 50 years on Wednesday. The first train passed through the bridge on October 31, 1962, was a goods train. The construction of the Saraighat Bridge was completed on October 31, 1962. The total cost needed for the construction of the bridge was Rs 10 crore and 65 lakh at that time. The length of the bridge is 1.296 km. The Saraighat Bridge was inaugurated for rail and road traffic by the then Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru on June 7, 1963. The inaugural function was held at the Maligaon stadium in Guwahati. (Sentinel)
