AIDYO on Silchar–Lumding BG line conversion project status

AIDYO’s demands

SILCHAR, August 2: In support of its ten point charter of demands, the members and supporters of All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO) staged a protest demonstration before the office of the Deputy Commissioner here today. A memorandum was sent to the Chief Minister, detailing the demands of the organization.
The organization demanded to assure and provide employment to all unemployed youths and to extend unemployment allowances to unemployed youths till they are employed, to ensure 100 days work to all job card holders under MGNREGA scheme maintaining transparency, to take immediate step on war footing to remove all hurdles against completion of much awaited Silchar–Lumding BG project, to reintroduce pass–fail system up to class VIII, to fill up all vacant posts in schools and colleges, to repair rural and urban road immediately, to check hike in prices of all essential commodities, to take immediate step to check all sorts of corruption and to take measure for permanent solution of supply of electricity.
Taking a dig at the Centre and the State, Bijit Kumar Singha, secretary, AIDYO, Cachar district committee, said that the “misrule” and “wrong policies” of the government have pushed the people to the brink of poverty and destitution. Slamming the government for abetting “corruption and anomalies”, he said that the tentacles of corruption are spread in every department in the country.
Drawing the attention towards the prvailing education system, the youth leader pointed out that the government is not providing adequate attention and funds for enhancement of standard of education which has been declining day by day. He vociferously opposed the move of the government towards commercialization of education which according to him would obliterate the essence of real education. He added to say that it was a quite irony that the government has abolished the pass–fail system from class I to VIII, which should be reintroduced for the larger interest of the students’ community.
