Violent mars during AKRSU bandh in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, Aug 2: The 36–hours Assam bandh call given by the All Koch–Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) demanding the creation of separate state of Kamatapur passed off with some violent activities in Kokrajhar district on Friday. There have been reports of burning down of some light vehicles and motorcycles especially in Bhaoraguri in Gossaigaon sub division of the district. Most of the shops and business establishments were seen closed on Friday while all long distance vehicles went off the road. All the private buses and other passenger carriers were hired by the ABSU to ferry supporters to block the railway at Kokrajhar railway station where thousands from all corners of different districts took part in the blockade. The region continued to witness the bandh call given by different organizations. The ABSU, AKRSU, People’s Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement (PJACBM) have already announced their agitational programmes which includes 60 hours to 1,500 hours bandh from August 5 in support of demanding separate state. The region is also likely to see the boiling situation after the isolated decision of the UPA government on creation of Telengana state.
