Asom Majuri Sramik Union of Hailakandi and Barak Zonal Committee

Sramik Union to hold mass convention on Food Security hoax

SILCHAR, September 3: Asom Majuri Sramik Union of Hailakandi and Barak Zonal Committee has planned to hold a mass convention at Hailakandi on September 7 in order to expose the various deficiencies of the much hyped Food Security Bill which instead of helping the poor and marginalized people will only create complications for them. The target beneficiaries will be deprived, it has been apprehended.

According to the frontline functionaries of the Union, if the lists of beneficiaries was prepared on the basis of the 2011 voters lists and as per holding number, 300 to 400 families might be left out in the rural areas. It would be the same in urban areas.

Though, the Bill speaks of covering 84.17 per cent families in the rural areas, what would happen to those villages where the percentage of poor families exceed to 95 per cent. It was therefore argued that the poor families of tea tribes and other extremely backward communities should also be included in the food security bill. Besides, other grievances in respect of unemployment allowances and the number of working class people deprived of the benefit would also find place on the agenda at the convention.

The question of various anomalies and irregularities in the implementation of MGNREGS, PDS, kerosene distribution, job cards as well as allotment of patta land would also be highlighted in the mass convention, pointed out Dakhina Mohan Das, working president of Barak Zonal Committee.
