Silchar Whole Sale Co–operatives employees stage protest demonstration

SILCHAR, September 6: The members of Silchar Whole Sale Co–operatives Stores Ltd. Employees’ Union today staged a protest demonstration infront of the office of the Silchar Whole Sale Co–Op Stores Ltd in support of their charter of demands.

The charter of demands included payment of pending salary of the employees for the months of April, May, June and July, immediate release of pending 36% DA, grant of assured 8.33% bonus for the year of 2011–12. Jayanta Purkayastha, General Secretary of the Employees’ Union, said that the chairman had proposed to hold board meeting within two days of the meeting held on August 29 to settle the demands of the Union and the final round discussion would be held on September 5. But, the chairman has violated his undertaking by not holding the Board meeting within August 29 and also not setting the legal demands of the Union.

When Akthar Uz Zaman, assistant registrar of co–operative societies, came to the office of the Silchar Whole Sale Co–Operative Stores Ltd to take the charge of Executive Officer, the employees opposed him  by shouting slogans and laying siege of him. Halim Uddin Barbhuiya secretary to Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies and J R Chowdhury, junior inspector, were also barred to enter the office.

The president of Employees’ Union Anup Kumar Singh led the members of the agitated employees.
